Our 4th Anniversary

This year for our anniversary we went up to North Carolina. Normally, we'd go camping but realized that wouldn't be much fun. Can't really let a baby crawl around in the dark. So we searched for cabin in the mountains. We found one in Burnsville - about an hour north of Asheville. It was the perfect spot - close to a city with lots of beautiful nature.

The land there is beautiful. There was a lot of fog while we were there and it reminded me so much of the Lake District in Northern England. Sometimes I want to move back to England just for primark and greggs.

As we drove up we stopped in Asheville at Homegrown. There's a completely unrelated homegrown in Atlanta that I love so of course I had to try it. It was amazing! Asheville won my heart with their food. After lunch we stopped in trader joes to pick up food for our cabin. We rarely shop there but when we do it's a treat. They have the best sweets.

We arrived at the cabin just before dark and got settled in ate dinner, put Benicio down then started watching Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. One of our favorites.

The next morning as Bobby made breakfast I turned the tv on. Since we don't have one at its funny to watch how Benicio reacts. He sits and stares for about 2 minutes then moves on.

After exploring the land around the cabin, we set out for Mount Mitchell which is the highest peak east of the Rocky Mountains. The drive up was incredibly foggy. Like scary dense drive 5 mph foggy. We had raffi playing and took our time. I kept my feet pressing into the floorboard desperately wanting to ground - I have a fear of heights. It took about an hour to drive up. Eventually, we cleared the fog and were driving 'in the clouds'. It was amazing. The sky was clear, the sun was bright and the air felt so fresh. Once we made it to the top we set out to explore the surrounding area. There was a hike to the summit but we didn't come prepared for it - the path had ice so we walked around the picnic sites letting Benicio stretch his legs - wiggle his waggles away.

From there we set out to Asheville. We ate lunch and explored the area - I believe we were in West Asheville? There were lots of artsy boutiques. As we set back for our cabin, we stopped at a Asheville sandwich store for dinner. They has good reviews on yelp but I missed the bit about their signature French fries placement - in your sandwich. It's a great idea and I will admit to doing it before but it felt like I was eating a bread roll stuffed with French fries.

The next morning as we were packing up, Bobby glanced out the kitchen window and noticed the driver side door was open. Wide open. We were pretty far away from the town and the house was tucked away on the hill so we didn't think to lock the car. Now, I love our subie and she drives well but she's also the car who's battery will die at the drive in. We knew if the door had been open all night chances were the battery was dead. But it wasn't. The inside wasn't misted or anything. Meaning someone (or thing?) had just wondered up, peeked in didn't find anything valuable besides baby stuff and left. I was freaked out and basically threw everything in a trash bag so we could get out of there quicker. Luckily we had windy. I'd like to think she could protect us.
